UCLG-ASPAC

uclgUnited Cites and Local Governments-Asia Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC)

UCLG represents and defends the interests of local governments on the world stage, regardless of the size of the communities they serve.

The organization supports international cooperation between cities and their associations, and facilitates programmes, networks and partnerships to build the capacity of local governments. It promotes the role of women in local decision-making, and is a gateway to relevant information on local government across the world.

UCLG’s work programme focuses on:

  • Increasing the role and influence of local government and its representative organisations in global governance;
  • Becoming the main source of support for democratic, effective, innovative local government close to the citizen;
  • Ensuring an effective and democratic global organisation.

UCLG-ASPAC and CDIA have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate in the areas of regional capacity building and knowledge sharing.

CITYNET

CitynetCITYNET- The Regional Network of Local Authorities for the Management of Human Settlements

CITYNET has the vision of bringing cities together – to learn, to flourish. CITYNET seeks to upgrade urban slums, and promote community participation and equitable distribution of resources. It envisions improved transportation networks, privatisation of public services, and efficient urban systems. The organization works towards efficient budget allocation, revenue enhancement, and education of city officials on effective financial initiatives. It encourages higher standards of innovation in urban environmental management and an unpolluted city environment.

With an aim to help local governments provide better services to citizens, CITYNET is committed to capacity-building at the city level. Every year, it organises around 25 activities, including seminars and training programmes, which address burning issues in urban planning and development.

With the firm belief that people-friendly cities are the need of the hour, CITYNET is tirelessly working towards its goal of making cities environmentally sustainable, economically productive, politically participatory, globally connected, culturally vibrant and socially just.

Singapore

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore

The Technical Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign affairs, Singapore and the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA) have agreed to develop a new partnership of cooperation under the Singapore-CDIA Third Country Training Programme (TCTP), aimed at joint provision of technical assistance to developing countries in the Asian region for their economic and social development.

The areas of training will include, but will not be limited to, the following subjects:

  • Urban infrastructure project prioritization and programming;
  • Urban infrastructure finance;
  • Urban infrastructure services contributing to urban sustainability (environment, social development, economic development);
  • Marketing of infrastructure investment projects to potential financiers;
  • Using public private partnership (PPP) arrangements for infrastructure investments.
  • Using pre-feasibility studies to help bridge the gap between development plans and project implementation.

clc_logoCLC – The Centre for Liveable Cities

CLC brings together Singapore’s expertise on sustainable urban development across public and private sectors. It aims to distil and develop Singapore’s experience in good governance, integrated urban planning, effective resource management, affordable quality housing, efficient transport management and environmental sustainability.

Besides being a key repository of Singapore’s expertise in urban management, the Centre will facilitate the sharing of best practices and learning among cities in the region and globally through conferences, forums, seminars and workshops. Working with other international and local think tanks and research institutions, the CLC will also undertake policy-oriented research that is timely, practical and relevant.

IE Singapore is an agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry spearheading the development of Singapore’s external economy. Through the years, Singapore has built up a body of knowledge in urban development and management within its private sector, government agencies and institutions of higher learning. IE Singapore, acts as a conduit to Singapore-based companies and individuals with expertise in a broad cross-section of urban management disciples.

NDF

NDFThe Nordic Development Fund (NDF)

The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) will in the future provide grant financing for interventions targeted at adaptation and mitigation to climate change in poor developing countries. NDF is a multilateral development finance institution established by the five Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Since operations started in 1989, the Fund has provided soft loans to190 projects of Nordic interest in developing countries. Now entering a new phase, NDF will change its focus from soft loans for development projects to grant aid for climate change related projects.

CAI-Asia

CAI-AsiaCAI-Asia – The Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities

CAI-Asia promotes and demonstrates innovative ways to improve the air quality of Asian cities through partnerships and sharing experiences.

CAI-Asia Partnership is a non-binding, multi-stakeholder network of government agencies, NGOs, research institutes, international organizations, and private sector firms. As a non-legal entity, the Partnership will be a forum for urban air quality management and focal point for country and regional networks. Because it is complicated for Governments to join a legal entity, the formation of the Partnership enables national and local government agencies to maintain their involvement in CAI-Asia.

AIM

Asian Institute of Management

The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA), share points of common interest in the context of sustaining urban development in the Asian region. Both further recognize the importance of capacity development of urban professionals that have an important role in supporting city development especially through the application of innovative practices. Together they have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) identifying strategic areas that the two organizations may collaborate upon within the context of a training course for urban professionals.

AIM and CDIA have agreed to develop a new partnership of enhanced cooperation, aimed at expanding cooperation in capacity development for professionals in developing countries in the Asian region. This is embedded in the framework of CDIAs aim to cooperate with a regional partner organization.
